Treasures of Mountainous Larnaca
The “Treasures of Mountainous Larnaca” route highlights the tourist mountainous villages of the province of Larnaca.
The province is famous for its ideal climatic conditions that favor the production of honey, but also for its natural beauty. The majority of the rural villages are famous for their apiaries, while the largest number of beehives are concentrated in the mentioned areas, which is why they are also called “HoneyBee Villages” (“Melissochoria”). As a result, the production of honey is a part of the cultural heritage of the place and various celebrations, and traditional events are organized annually, such as the Honey and Beekeeping Festival that takes place every summer.
The beekeeping villages of Larnaca are Ora, Odou, Lagia, Vavla, Melini, Kato Drys, Vavatsinia, Agioi Vavatsinias and Kato Lefkara. Following this route the visitor will have the opportunity to get to know some of these villages and its unique traditional events. The «Treasures of Mountainous Larnaca» route allows the visitor, no matter where he/she starts his journey from in Cyprus, to get to know some of these villages.
