Tour of the Wine Villages of Limassol
Vine growing and wine production is a tradition that Cyprus has been carrying for approximately 6000 years. The most famous varieties grown on the island are Xysteri, which is the base ingredient for most Cypriot white wines, Mavro, the most popular native red variety of Cyprus and of course Koumandaria, the oldest wine in the world!
Those wines are mainly produced at the southernmost slopes of Troodos. The visitors of the island can try the Cypriot wine varieties in the Wine Villages (Krasochoria), as the villages with the rich winemaking history are known. Included in this route are 5 of the Wine Villages, which are attractive not only for their wineries, but also for their traditional architecture, cobbled narrow passages and wonderful surroundings.
This scenic route passes through Kolossi, Erimi, Omodos, Platres, Koilani and Lofou. Tourists can complete the route of a total distance of approximately 70 km, as shown in the map bellow, starting from the province of Limassol.
